MORGAN SALES and DEVELOPMENTS

Morgan Aero 8

The Morgan with 325bhp, ABS, Cruise Control, Air Conditioning and twin airbags. It has racing 6 pot calliper front brakes and 2 pot calliper rears. Added to this you have electric power steering, a heated front screen and tyre pressure monitors all as standard. How does 0-62 in under 4.5 seconds sound?

Did you know that the Aero 8 ‘cockpit’ is now 6 inches wider, has revised headlights and front splitter. Its ride is even better and now smoother with improved front and rear suspension and ‘rubber’ mounted differential unit.

We look after a number of Aero 8s here at Techniques from the first prototype, through the first production models to the current supercar. Please come and talk to us about the Aero 8 and should you be interested further we can arrange a test drive. A new Aero 8 can be supplied usually within 6 months. Prices are from £62,500 incl VAT.

Geneva Motor Show

Techniques will be assisting the Morgan Motor Company on their stand at the 77th International Motor Show in Geneva being held from 8th-18th March. The Morgan stand will be bigger than ever and will feature the Morgan Aeromax, two Morgan Aero 8s, an Aero 8 chassis and two traditional Morgans. The Geneva Motor show is the most important European motor show of them all, with all the major motor manufacturers displaying their latest creations. If you can tear yourself away from the Morgan stand, look out for the new Audi A5 coupe, Bentley Coupe and TVR Typhoon making their world debuts.

We were amazed how easy (and cheap!) it is to get to the Geneva Motorshow. Easyjet fly direct from Luton and the exhibition halls are accessible from the airport terminal. It is an easy day trip so why not come and join us on the Morgan stand.

Morgan Motor Company ‘LIFECar’

We were privileged to view progress on the ‘LIFECar’ during a recent visit to the Morgan factory. As you have probably read elsewhere, the ‘LIFECar’ is being built by a consortium of companies part funded by the Department of Trade & Industry to create an ultra quiet car with zero emissions. The ‘LIFEcar’ is based on the Morgan Aero 8 and uses a fuel cell to convert hydrogen and oxygen into electricity. The emissions are pure water!!

We were able to see work in progress and we can honestly say, the car looks absolutely brilliant. Although based on the Aero 8, the bodywork is considerably narrower, partly due to the car running narrower section wheels and tyres. The Aero 8 ‘family’ look has been retained at the front but the rear treatment if completely different. The project is expected to be complete within 2½ years. For more information please click here

SERVICING & REPAIRS NEWS

Morgan 4-4 Le Mans ‘FXD 280’

We are very proud to announce that we have been entrusted with the restoration of this most famous Morgan. Much has been written about this car but it is only more recently that the full extent of the car's competition history has come to light.

This car famously completed the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1938 driven by Prudence Fawcett and Geoffrey White. Carrying the registration plate BNP 370, Prudence caused a stir in the national press by bringing the car home in 13th place overall and 2nd in class. The same car was then entered in the Donington Park Tourist Trophy race. Driven by Henry Laird, the Morgan completed 93 laps to finish in 24th place.

The same Morgan was entered for the 1939 Le Mans 24 hour race. This time, the car was fitted with revised bodywork, most significantly, having no doors – the only Morgan of its type. Re registered FXD 280, the car finished in style, narrowly missing out on the prestigious Rudge Whitworth Cup.

After the war, the Morgan was raced by Jeff Sparrowe at Silverstone and Goodwood but it turned out to be too heavy and relatively uncompetitive when compared to his lightened racer ‘JUO177’. The car was sold on and eventually ended up in America.

In 2004 the car returned to these shores and has since been acquired by one of our loyal customers. For a full story of this car, please click here to read about “A Very Special Le Mans Car”.

We are restoring the car back to its 1939 guise. Much of the original bodywork has survived and we have embarked on a sympathetic refurbishment. Please come back and visit our site for the latest news on the cars progress.

Historic Morgan +8 to Compete in Europe

We are delighted to renew our acquaintance with this awesome Morgan +8. Originally, an early Moss Box car, the Morgan has been developed into a very quick racecar, which historically competed in Class A of the Powertorque Morgan Challenge Race series.

Now with a new owner, residing in France, we are preparing the car to take part in a number of historic events such as the Tour Auto. We have been commissioned to refurbish the engine and gearbox and to completely rewire the car.
